HOUSE RENOVATION, RICKMANSWORTH
MPG Construction was appointed to carry out internal house renovation work and external hard and soft landscaping work to this property in Rickmansworth including; a large kitchen and utility room renovation, external kitchen, hard and soft landscaping to gardens and driveway, 2 bathroom renovations and ground works for a new oak orangery installation.
We removed the original UPVC conservatory and due to changes in regulations had to remove the existing base, re-dig foundations and prepare the entire structure to support the oak frame.
In the original kitchen we removed a load bearing wall across the centre of the room and built the ceiling height up to ensure a flush ceiling between the original kitchen and the new orangery – thereby maintaining the flow of the room. It was very important to our client that the orangery and kitchen were as one and the orangery didn’t appear to be stuck onto the back of the house.
The property owners unfortunately experienced difficulties with the oak orangery suppliers and as a result we carried out more work including: treatment of the external oak and installation of hand-made window sills for the windows.
In the utility area, we blocked in an original doorway and in the main kitchen we replaced the window to be more in keeping with the character of the house and to allow in more light.
Our team of experts worked tirelessly to remove the existing kitchen, carry out all wiring, plastering, plumbing etc. By working closely with the owners of the property we created a hand-made wooden bespoke kitchen design with Iroko wood and granite surfaces throughout. During the build, there were tweaks and changes to ensure unique features and total perfection with each and every finish. The flow from the kitchen to the snug and orangery right through to the utility area was seamless in design /look and feel.
To the outside of the property we extended the driveway and finished this with Cotsworld buff stone and black granite sets. In the rear garden we worked to the owner’s specification, creating new steps to the garden, a large patio area, a large decking and seating area with fire pit, water features, outdoor kitchen with sink, bbq and kitchen storage. And finally, we installed ready-painted ornate white picket fencing to secure the property and to complete the look.

“From the minute we met Kevin at MPG Construction he gave us total confidence in his company’s ability – there was no arrogance with him whatsoever though!. He’s not the sort of builder that can only hold a conversation with the man of the house either – he totally understood me and was always happy to discuss materials that I wanted to source! This was a project that spanned 6 months and I can honestly say in all that time I never had cause for a cross word with Kevin or any of his team about any of the work – they gave it 100%. In fact, now that everything is finished, I think I’m really going to miss having them around.”
